Jackman was founded in Japan in 1949 by baseball-obsessed Mitsugu Tanabe. Mitsugu quit his job to set up Tanabe Meriyasu, a small manufacturing operation with three weft knitting machines. Mitsugu Tanabe's passion for American Baseball drove him to first produce stockings for the fledgling Japanese baseball scene, and within a few years he expanded to produce uniforms and mitts. In 1964 Jackman produced the training gear for the Japan National team for the Tokyo Olympics. Jackman is a pioneer of the baseball scene in Japan and a brand of true cultural heritage.
